Back to WordPress – Why?

About six months after redesigning my website in basic HTML, I’ve decided to relaunch my blog in WordPress format. Why? Lots of reasons. However, the bottom line is really the usability factor. WordPress literally lets me make changes wherever I am. I can access my blog on any computer with an internet connection, or upload content directly from my phone if I’m on the go.

Why might WordPress be the best option for your personal or business site? Even more reasons:

Not Just for Blogs
Yeah, I know what WordPress is…it’s a place for bloggers to share their thoughts with the internet world. True. However, WordPress is no longer just for blogs. Did you know that many corporate giants use WordPress for their sites? I’m not kidding, look into it. You’ll find names like FOX News, CNN, BBC, Yahoo!, Carnival Cruise Lines, and Blackberry. Still think WordPress is only for bloggers?

Learnability
I know I need a website…it’s 2012, but I don’t know a thing about HTML or CSS. That’s why WordPress is awesome. Chances are you’re not an expert web designer. Luckily, when you run a site through WordPress you don’t have to be. WP gives you the ability to edit content in a basic visual editor. It looks a lot like Word, no tricky code. If you can type, you can make posts and edit pages. Even cooler, you can easily add photos to pages and posts: Customizability
WordPress is tried and true, but won’t my site look just like everyone else’s? Maybe. However, hire a web designer who knows what they’re doing and you will be able to reap the usability of WordPress, and still be able to show off a custom site. Some of my recent favorites:

Open Source
I want a website, but I don’t have thousands of dollars to put towards a flashy site. That’s why WordPress is even MORE awesome. Maybe the best part about WordPress? It’s 100% open source. That makes it 100% free. Sure, you can shell out money on premium templates that are pre-designed, with the thought that it may make your site more unique. But you don’t have to. Set up your domain and hosting, and you can choose from tons of free templates. Don’t want to spend any money on your site? www.yoursite.wordpress.com is 100% free.

Ready to Learn More?
Alright, I’m sold…how do I get started? Several ways. You can do your research and learn some things at www.wordpress.org.

Conclusion
My recommendation? Speak with a designer, heck speak with me. I know several designers (including myself) that would be more than happy to sit down and discuss the wonderful resource that is WordPress. If you’re looking for a time tested, professional looking website that will allow you to easily update or add content, WordPress may be the solution for you. And I may be just the person to help you get started.
